CLARE ROOTS SOCIETY - JANUARY 2013 PRESENTATION


The first talk of 2013 by Clare Roots Society's, will be given by Michael Nolan from  Kilkee.

Michael will talk about the MacDonnell Family who descended from Argyllshire in Scotland, in the 13th Century and settled in Antrim, and later moved to Kilkee, and Newhall in Clare.

The Irish Book of Arms includes the MacDonnell family of  Kilkee and Newhall; they held extensive landholdings throughout West Clare and East Clare from the late 1600s until their ultimate takeover by the land commission.The family moved to Dublin in the early years of the 20th century.

Michael will also talk about the treatment of tenants in the general Clare area, the methods of dealing with land resettlement and tenants being moved out; and a look at the social events of the MacDonnell family both in Kilkee and in Newhall.

The presentation will be held in the Civic Rooms, Ennis Town Council, Drumbiggle, Ennis at 8 pm on Thursday, 17th January 2013.
 
All are welcome. There will be a cover charge of €5 for non-members.

  3. If the presenter agrees, Susan, we will have a transcript. It really depends on what type of presentation is made. Do you have a particular interest in the MacDonnell family?
