David is the last member of the Brady-Browne family living in Ireland. 

He spent three years tracing the family history and genealogy of one of East Clare’s best known families, from the 1600’s right up to the present day. 

His family played a prominent role in the life of the Tulla region and served with distinction in the sporting field, the military and public service. 

David will talk of his personal journey researching his family and will give an exceptional record of the family going back eleven generations.

His talk includes a mention of Montfort Browne of Newgrove, a key personality in the American War of Independence, a General in the American Army and Governor of the Bahamas.

BRADY - BROWNES OF NEWGROVE, TULLA... BOOK LAUNCH IN TULLA, IN MARCH

A new book has just been published tracing the history of one of East Clare's best-known families, the Brady-Brownes of Newgrove. 

The book offers a unique insight into the history and genealogy of the family from the 1600s right up to the present day, and was written by the last member of the family still living in Ireland, David Brady-Browne. 

The book describes eleven generations of the family who played such a prominent role in the life of the Tulla region, several of whom served with distinction in the sporting field, the military and public service. 

Lavishly illustrated with over 90 photographs, maps and illustrations, many of which have never before been published, the book provides an unparalleled record of the family. The book will be launched in Tulla in early March.

APRIL TALK

Clare Roots Society will host its April talk entitled "The O'Shaughnessy's - Cinel Aodh na Echteghe, and their Co. Clare connections" given by Rory O'Shaughnessy in the Civic Room, Drumbiggle on Thursday 19 April 2012 at 8 pm.
O'Shaughnessy is a popular family name in Galway, Clare and Limerick. The Clan was known as Cinel Aodh na Echteghe – Aodh's people of the Aughtys and it controlled a large territory of land on the Galway-Clare border. Dermot O'Shaughnessy, Chief of the Clan was knighted by Henry the 8th during the 16th century. For a period up to the Jacobite defeat at the Battle of the Boyne, they held a dominant position of power in the region. The talk hopes to look at the O'Shaughnessy Clan history examining in particular it's Clare connections.

Rory O' Shaughnessy is a stonemason and heritage practitioner. He has a degree in history and archaeology and a Higher Diploma in Irish Heritage Management. He carries out heritage talks and walks as well as doing some heritage illustrating. Rory is also active in National Schools working on the Heritage in Schools Scheme and Burrenbeo's Eco-beo Programme. This year Rory is Coordinator of the O'Shaughnessy Gathering, an event held every two years. The event which includes music, tours, talks and Medieval Banquets is to be held in Gort from May 10th to 13th 2012.

All are welcome to the talk. There is a cover charge of €5 for non-members.

7TH AUGHTY EARTH DAY GATHERING.

Slógadh Eachtaí 2012: Cillíní Díoma is Liathdrom will take place at Leitrim Hall, Leitrim, Loughrea. The date is Saturday 21st April and registration is at 9.15. The Aughty Earth Day Gathering is organised each year in a different location in Co. Clare or Co.Galway by a local group. The event was previously held in Crusheen, Kilchreest /Castledaly, Woodford, Tuamgraney, Gort and at Lough Graney in 2011.

The day is informal and is dedicated to hospitality. Everyone is welcome to attend and to share their knowledge and interest in the heritage of the Sliabh Aughty.
