PAPAL ARMY SUBSCRIPTION LISTS PART II

CLARE ROOTS SOCIETY AND CLARE LIBRARY PRESENT

PAPAL ARMY SUBSCRIPTION LISTS PART II

In a recent post, I told of the project involving Clare Roots Society and Clare Library in compiling and transcribing the lists of those who paid subscriptions to support the Papal Army..
you can read that initial post here

This article from the Clare Champion will give you more detail.

Over time, I will post various other articles to do with the Papal Army that portray the opinions of others around the world. They will also enlighten you as to the futility of what was happening, despite the dedication of so many.

This project could not have happened without the skilled assistance of so many volunteer transcribers, who offered their services yet again, the moment they were asked.

The subscription list can be found
along with the names of all involved in this project

Thank you all,
your contribution to family history
is very much appreciated.

PAPAL ARMY SUBSCRIPTIONS

PAPAL ARMY SUBSCRIPTIONS PROJECT

Back in May 2014, you may have seen this request for information re Papal Army Subscription information...

http://astheywere.blogspot.com.au/2014/05/papal-army-information-request.html

Since that time, Clare Roots Society, in conjunction with the Clare Library, have worked with our very enthusiastic group of volunteer transcribers to bring together what promises to be a very useful addition to our research resources... a list of many in Co Clare who subscribed to the funds needed for the support of the Papal Army.

You can find the list here...

http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/papal_army_1860.htm

You will also be able to read the background of the project and the names of all involved.

The launch of Clare Papal Army Project took place at the Manse Local Studies Centre, and was presented by Bishop Kieran yesterday, 18th November, 2014. I will add photos when they become available.

Just another great addition to the free resources we are fortunate enough to have in Co Clare.

The following article from TROVE will give you some background to what the Papal Army was all about.

CLARE ROOTS SOCIETY AND PAPAL ARMY PROJECT...

One of the most interesting projects that the

CLARE ROOTS SOCIETY

has been involved in, and there have have been numerous,
is to do with the contributions collected to support the Papal Army.
The concentration is for 1860, with so many names being transcribed
by the diaspora world wide.

This will prove to be invaluable for those researching ancestors,
as to where they were, what their status was and what parish.

Once this project is completed, you will be able to read about it's launch here.

It will be available to all online thanks to the efforts of the volunteers,
Clare Roots Society and friends,  and the Clare Library.

Thanks to Irish Roots and Clara Hoyne, secretary of CRS,
 for the article below.
