CLARE ROOTS SOCIETY FAMINE COMMEMORATION

For those, especially our oversea members who cannot attend the unveiling of the Memorial on Sunday, the Clare Champion today with Tim Kelly's thesis from 1971, gives a good understanding of the effects of the Famine in Ennis. More than 2000 unknown  people are buried there having died from fever and hunger between 1845 and 1850.

INVITATION TO THE UNVEILING OF FAMINE MEMORIAL IN OLD DRUMCLIFF

As part of the National Famine Commemoration, which begins on May 3^rd,  Clare Roots Society 

are hosting a short Liturgy of Prayer and unveiling of a Memorial to over 2000 nameless people 

who died of hunger and fever during the Famine in Ennis.

The burial site is located in Old Drumcliff graveyard, behind the tower and Church .
