Con Colbert was one of the 16 leaders of the Easter Rising subsequently executed. His mother Norah Josephine McDermott was the daughter of the renowned Cooraclare school teacher Connor McDermott. The centenary of Con Colbert's execution was marked by a weekend of events in his mother's native parish. On Friday 6 May 2016, Paddy Waldron gave this talk on County Clare in 1916 at an event entitled Ár Stair in Cooraclare Community Centre. He was the warm-up act for national political figures Seán Kelly, MEP (Fine Gael) and Mary O'Rourke, ex-T.D., ex-Minister (Fianna Fáil).
