CLARE ROOTS SOCIETY LECTURE

Capt. Mortimer’s talk will be based on sources available to researchers in the Military Archives using examples from Co. Clare, focusing on the period 1913-1923, using material drawn from the Bureau of Military History, Military Service Pensions Collection and other records from the Civil War.

She will also touch on archival material from the Emergency period during WW2 and briefly outline other sources that are available.


Captain Claire Mortimer is currently the Officer in Charge of Military Archives. She joined the Defence Forces in 2003 and spent a number of years in 2 Cavalry Squadron where one of her roles was Officer in Charge of the Motorcycle Escort of Honour for Heads of State and dignitaries. She served overseas with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) in 2006 andwith the Organization for Security Cooperation Europe (OSCE) in Vienna from2010-2011. Captain Mortimer joined the Military Archives staff in 2012 and has since obtained a Masters in Archives and Records Management.
